NORTH CAROLINA SEPTEMBER 27 - 30
We will be staying in Maggie Valley this year. A list of hotels/motels at the bottom of the page.
We will leave on Monday the 27th at your leisure but the earlier the better. From Sun City to Maggie Valley, it is 325 miles or about 5 hours. If you leave early, you will have time for evening photography. On Tuesday morning we will be getting up early and driving over the mountain into the Cataloochee Valley to photograph Elk and some beautiful landscapes. After lunch we will concentrate on waterfalls and then hopefully a nice sunset from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
On Wednesday up early again for some more Elk at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center area. The Center is on Highway 441 at the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, about a half hour away. After lunch in Cherokee, you can go wherever and do whatever your lens leads you to do. There are Waterfalls, mountain vistas, beautiful streams, old mountain farms and the Visitor Center has replicas of old farmsteads.
On Thursday we will return home. Of course, it’s not that far so if you want to stay and shoot something that you did not get right the first time around, stay a while longer.
A word of caution concerning Covid-19. I am going to assume that most of us have had our stick in the arm shot, if you have not, I would advise you to go get stuck. I believe that North Carolina is still mandating mask wearing currently inside public places. Please, please be careful. We should not be around a lot of folks but if you feel uncomfortable at any time slap on the mask and move away. Covid is not good for any one but at our mature ages it can be bad.
